Coming to my senses by Alyssa Harad
This is a very well written book about a personal journey into becoming a perfume lover. Alyssa Harad tells us about the beginning of perfume blogs in 2005 with blogs like Now Smell This and Bois de Jasmin. Her story of becoming a perfume lover and personal story are told in a very open and honest way.
Her personal discoveries of perfumes like En Passant by Frederic Malle are delicately woven into the story. Although this is a non fiction story it reads smoothly like a fiction story and is very well structured as well. You will not find sexual explicit scenes in this book like in the book The Perfume Lover from Denise Beaulieu. Some of my fellow perfume lovers commented about this aspect in Denise´s book.
The perfumes mentioned in her book are now described on Alyssa´s own website. No glamorous stories but a down to earth book about how Alyssa became a perfume lover in an environment where this was not very common. It is quite funny at times as well.
I especially liked her story about Femme by Rochas which was given to Alyssa´s mother at work by a Texas heiress while working as a waitress. It inspired me to look for the perfume myself.
To give you an idea of the book I have included a link to her blog where she introduces us to Terre d´Hermes.
Highly recommended !
